Burger Marathon at Burger Avenue
I’ve been asking a couple of friends to come with me to a burger place I’d been hearing about called Burger Avenue. It’s in a fairly new established mall called A Venue along Makati Ave and since we were already in the area I finally convinced a friend of mine to tag along. We walked a couple of blocks down Makati Avenue till we reached the mall. We had to do a bit of asking when we got there but the place wasn’t hard to find. Its located on the ground floor, situated in a quiet inconspicuous corner.

Sunday Family Dinner - Curries Galore
A curry is a dish cooked with a lot of spices, more like a stew with spices. In our recent study trip to Chiang Mai, I made a Thai curry paste by hand which took me a laborious 30-40 mins per curry mix because we had to roast the spices and pound them together with peppers until we achieved a nice paste (try doing that with a mortar and pestle and you’ll go crazy!).

I like my tummy. Even when it’s full. But this was crazy.
This Sunday’s dinner was Italian themed, which was a wonderful breather from all the Asian stuff I’ve been eating lately. I knew there was going to be pizza and pasta, and a great few other things that dad decided to put in. It’s funny because everyone came early…or on time this week. I guess being late for the Sunday dinner has it’s own drawbacks - - you miss out on the food and more importantly, you miss out on the stories.

I saw this while signing into my YM, my friend Jirbie actually had a status saying “50% off @ Brother’s Burger”. And I just remembered seeing this while I visited Brother’s Burger’s fabulous website while looking for inspiration. I love their site, it’s fun. I want to learn flash again. Anyway, I told Mig about it and he wanted to go and grab that 50% off half-pounder just for the heck of it.

This place is celebrating its 25th year. I can’t believe it, and it’s only my 2nd or 3rd time to eat here. I like bangus, in fact I eat them all the time in Cafe. So I guess I know what to order…bangus!

Pizzeria Toscana is a casual Italian pizzeria put up by the Italy-obsessed husband and wife tandem, Anthony and Angel Aban. And this very personalized place is truly charming because you see that it is a collaboration of work of the entire family. Angel handles the kitchen, the two children help out in the ordering and busing, while the husband does the numbers (or at least that was how I understood it).

My dad and bro are back from a food stint and Cebu and finally I will get to write about our family sunday dinners. This will probably take up the bulk of my blog because we have this as a tradition that every Sunday, our family and invited friends come over to eat dinner together. It used to be Sunday lunch at our ancestral home in Quezon City with Bro. Andrew usually taking care of the menu and our family cook doing most of the work. Now it has evolved to students and our chef doing the work, and our meals being eaten at a long table in Cafe Ysabel. So let's start...

We wanted to go native for lunch on our day trip to Tagaytay so Mig and I decided to have a nice Filipino meal at Viewsite Tagaytay. It was already about 2:30pm and my stomach’s been grumbling , on this trip we wanted to try what Tagaytay is usually known for — bulalo and the tawilis, and a bunch of other little accompaniments.

I had a nice portfolio collaboration with Mr. Mariano Honrado yesterday. He was able to practice his food photography while i was able to work on my styling and photography. I still am stuck on the theory that available light is best. But it's the hardest especially when the sun's starting to set and you still have a few dishes waiting for their turn. Mariano and I had a nice time exchanging thoughts and experiences on the wonderful world of food photography. I think we both finished happy and satisfied with what we've learned that day. For those I couldn't accommodate, I'm sorry.

I haven’t been breathing over the weekend. I think I won’t be breathing till mid-July. Suddenly I have a rush of things to do that I can hardly even write in my own blog! Well anyway, one good thing though is that I’m learning a whole lot from my new responsibility.

Finally, a little room to breathe. The stall is starting to do well and I have already made friends with some soon-to-be regulars. So far, my people in the stall are starting to get used to the system and I’ve been able to spruce up the overall look of the stall down to the price tags. It’s a lot of work especially when the mall wants a certain unique aura for your stall aside from being a new part of the supermarket. We’re having a meeting today, to hopefully finalize another pet project, I sat down to eat lunch and relax a little.

And so the meeting was okay. Nothing seems final as of the moment. Gaah. I’m still waiting for my brother now to meet with me regarding our stall’s food in the coming weeks. There are so many holes to fill, and it’s already 6:30 I haven’t visited the stall yet. We had a little snack on the way back at Su Zhou to contemplate on our meeting. We hope that things get ironed out because our deadline for operation would be in August.

I made some fake ice cream today for a portfolio shoot and so far, I think being in a very humid country makes the mixture somewhat unstable. I had to stuff it in the fridge a few times to dry it out.

After months of repairs and renovation, I’m proud to say that Cafe Ysabel has been giving a new breath of life. It is as if we just made minor repairs (but it was pretty major, termites were eating off our posts!), since the place itself didn’t seem to change much, but one thing’s for sure, the next time you dine at our place, you will find that little pleasant things have been added to make our service to customers much better. I decided to take pictures today after my trip to the stall just to give a few teasers to our customers.
